EIFS: canadian field performance

Twenty-three installations of EIFS were investigated, located in central and western Canada. The installations ranged from 2 to 13 years old. Most were the soft coat type (Type PB). Each installation was visually examined for signs of distress or deterioration. In many cases, building owners occupants, and managers were inverviewed, the working drawings were examined, and the interior was inspected. In ten cases, representative samples of the insulation and finish were taken for laboratory analysis to determine lamina weight, thickness of finish and base coats, water absorption, polymer type and amount, and reinforcement.
