The present paper highlights results from the priority program "Cellular Metals" of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG SPP 1075). The ultrasonic welding technology enables to produce high-strength joints between sheet metal and AFS without melting of the metal or a damage of the foam structure. In the following, the achievable mechanical properties for ultrasonic metal torsion welded joints especially under cyclic loading will be discussed. In the investigations different parameters like the foam density or the process sequence were varied. Additionally, results of microscopic investigations of the bonding zone are presented.
