Oxidation kinetics of some nickel-based sureralloy foils and the electronic resistance of the oxide scale formed

Haynes 230, Inconcel 625, Inconcel 718 and hastelloy X foil specimens were oxidized in air and wet hydrogen in the temperature range frm 800 to 1100 deg C. The oxidation knetics of all the alloys obeyed the parablic rate law in both atmospheres. The oxidation kinetics, Microstructure, and phases present in the oxide scale and resistance of the oxide scale were studied on samples oxidized in both atmospheres. Chromia and manganese chromite were the major phases identified in the oxide scales formed in both air and wet hydrogen. Electronic resistance of the oxide scale was measured in air at temperatures up to 800 deg C on samples oxidized in air and in wet hydrogen. The resistance of the oxide scale formed in wet hydrogen was greater than that for samples oxidized in air.
