The Haima West reservoir in a mature field in south Omanrnshowed severe production decline after initial encouragingrnresults in re-development phase using horizontal injectors andrnhorizontal producers. This sharp decline was due to rapidrnshort- circuiting of injected water through possible presencernnatural open fractures, induced fractures and/or thief zones.rnFurther development of the reservoir was put on hold andrnintegrated well and reservoir management team was putrnplace to manage the waterflood with existing well stock andrnarrest production decline. The case study presents thernsuccessful implementation of a reservoir surveillance andrnoptimization plan which could arrest production decline fromrnthe reservoir. Extensive data acquisition programme duringrnthis phase to reduce uncertainty in the next phaserndevelopment is discussed.
