Optimal Damper Placement on Beams

Damping in beams has been included for well nigh 200 years. Very little, however, seems to have been done in terms of the optimal distribution of such damping phenomena in beams. Here, we consider discrete and distributed viscous damping selected in an optimal fashion based on the maximization of the dissipated energy as wells as the possibly simultaneous consideration of the amount of absorbed energy at the end of a load cycle.
