This paper presents a new concept in the application of synthetically manufactured shaped Diamond Enhanced Inserts, on an innovative range of downhole drilling tools. The main points for discussion will highlight the major advantages in using these materials in the following application. Firstly, the ability to offer both gauge protection and hole reaming eapability with a single design, while maintaning well bore quality. Secondly, the increased performance and beneficial aspects when compared to existing gauge protectio methods. Thirdly, the economic advantages in applying tis technology. A full discussion will be made on the development, concept and the strategic application of synthetic diamond enhanced inserts. The increased performance capabilities and beneficial opportunities for economic savings will also be highlighted through operational data relating directly to applications of this technology.
