An efficient technique for combining multiple beams into a single coherent single-mode beam is proposed using stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a multi-mode fiber. The SBS technique for combining two beams in a fiber has been demonstrated previously by the AFIT group, but techniques for simultaneously combining multiple beams and those for efficient input/output coupling remained undeveloped. In this paper we present a proposal for an optical technique that permits combining of multiple beams simultaneously with high input/output coupling efficiency, and give a progress report on our experimental demonstration of the technique.
