A key factor in predicting the long term performance of a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) is a knowledge of the transport and reactivity properties of the various component materials in a stack. Dynamic Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) was used to determine the diffusion coefficients of manganese in single crystal and polycrystalline yttria stabilised zirconia (YSZ), in the temperature range of 1100 to 1400℃. The activation energies for manganese diffusion in these materials was found to be 5.36and 7.34eV, respectively.
