A NEW DISH STIRLING SOLAR GENERATOR IN ITALY

During the year 2002 a new dish Stirling solar generator, Eurodish type, was erected, tested and operated in Milan at CESI, the Italian Electrotechnical Experimental Centre. The experience was carried out in the framework of the Research Fund for the Italian Electrical System and was aimed to test and analyse performances, reliability and duration of these new independent small generators. The Eurodish installation at CESI is the unique solar thermal facility in operation in Italy since 1985, after the shut down of the Eurelios 1 MWe experimental tower power plant operated in Sicily. During this first 500 hours of operation the Eurodish solar generator showed an overall good reliability and satisfying performances even in the unfavourable north Italy whether conditions. No troubles emerged in critical part of the system and after the initial test phase, Eurodish resulted to be capable to run via remote surveillance. This paper summaries the relevant information regarding the erection, the operation and the maintenance of the generator. Comments and suggestions about results and potential further improvements are also reported.
