This paper investigates the effect of using iron filling-cement mixture on shear strength and CaliforniarnBearing Ratio of clayey soil. Three types of clayey soil were obtained and their initial physical propertiesrnwere determined in accordance with ASTM standard procedures. Five different ratio of iron filling to cementrnratio were prepared. The three types of clayey soils were mixed with the new admixture at four differentrnpercentages namely; 2.5%, 5.0% 7.5% and 10.0% by dry weight of the soil. Remolded specimens from the soilrnand the mix were prepared at optimum moisture content and 95% relative compaction for unconfined compressionrntest. Another set of specimens were prepared for CBR (California Bearing Ratio) test. Test resultsrnshowed that the increase in percentages of iron filling-cement mixture in clayey will increase both the maximumrndry density and the unconfined compressive strength. The increase in the unconfined compressivernstrength and CBR is optimum when the iron filling to cement ratio is 1:4.
