CORROSION PROPERTIES OF IONIC LIQUIDS AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES AND HUMID CONDITIONS

The corrosion tests of ionic liquids at different conditions showed a strong dependence on the cation chosen. Water played also an important role in the initiation of corrosion. Further, it can be demonstrated that corrosion prevention can be successfully introduced by a proper choice of the corrosion inhibitor. Summing up it can be stated that the formulation of lubricants based on ionic liquids has to be carefully adapted to the chemical structure of the ionic liquid and corrosion inhibitor, the material to be lubricated and the environmental conditions.
