A fundamental problem with the characterization of fracturedrnreservoirs is that there is a scale of structure that is difficult tornidentify – that between fractures detected in the well bore andrnfaults/fractures interpreted from seismic. A new workflow forrnstructural characterization is presented here based on thernapplication of Shell’s proprietary software:-rn1. “Van Gogh” filtering for the highlighting ofrnstructural discontinuities from 3D seismic, calledrnStopper-Voxels,rn2. “FaultWorld” for analyzing the Stopper-Voxels,rn3. “SVS” for characterisation and modelling ofrnfractured reservoirs.rnThe result is several field-wide discrete fracture/faultrnscenarios, based on detection rather than prediction.
