Wettability has a greater influence on HCASMCs spreading than roughness, where there is a clear correlation between shape factor and contact angle. There are clear changes in the spread area of HUVEC's on different polymers, but this does not correlate with surface wettability. There was no correlation between the attachment of either cell type and surface roughness in this case chemistry is the over-riding factor. Future experimental work will concentrate on cell production of cytokines, H_2O_2, and nitric oxide. Blood material interactions and protein adsorption will also be investigated.
