We have developed thermoresponsive poly(NIPAm-AMPS-AAc) nanoparticles that exhibit a large hydrodynamic diameter at low temperature, while collapsing to a smaller diameter at physiological temperature. The thermoresponsive nature of the nanoparticles will provide a mechanism for eventual drug loading, as the larger more porous particles will allow for concentration and charge driven drug loading, while at physiological conditions, the smaller particles will allow for sustained release of the loaded therapeutic peptide. Using the heterobifunctional crosslinker BMPH we were able to attach the collagen binding peptide GSIT to the surface of the nanoparticles.
