摘要

The primary objective of this paper is to show that the change in cross sectional area due to bending inoverpressurized isolated piping is negligible. It also shows that an increase in internal pressure will result in a decrease inthe deformed area change due to bending. These results were obtained using 3-D thin shell non-linear finite elementanalyses. The results also show that for low hoop strain levels (< 2%), the axial stress due to internal pressure plus bendingis very close to the elastic closed form solution.
