At Ok Tedi, ore type and SAG feed size distributionrnvary widely and frequently. This makes control of thernSAG mills by application of the power/pressurernrelationship difficult. Power logic has traditionallyrnbeen conservative due to power spikes associatedrnwith rapid size distribution changes.rnA new expert system was installed in early 2000.rnThe system incorporates multiple state fuzzy logic torndeal with frequent and radical ore type and sizernvariations, along with monitoring of motorrntemperatures. A short term power spike no longerrnwarrants immediate radical action. This has resultedrnin increased mill throughput and improved circuitrnstability.
