Abstract: Specular reflection from airport buildings interferes with instrument landing systems. It is possible to eliminate these specular reflections by periodic strip grating techniques. These metallic strips, when painted over a dielectric sheet, are found to eliminate the specular reflections from a plane metallic surface and the surface behaves as a `non reflecting conducting surface.' These inexpensive surfaces are lightweight and have the added advantage of ease in fabrication. It is easy to apply metallic paint in a regularly spaced strip pattern. By a suitable choice of the period `d' and the thickness of the dielectric medium (the wall), it is possible to eliminate reflections at any desired angle. It may also be possible to eliminate the reflections from other targets like cylinders and corner reflectors. !3
