We studied the triangular Ising model with nearest neighbor antiferromagnetic interactions and local lattice distortions coupled to the spin interaction. The model is mapped onto the Solid on Solid model, and the dynamics are shown to be driven by the motion of defects, which moderate local transitions between order and disorder.
