Stability of long panels under suddenly applied radial pressure

This paper presents the problem of dynamic stability of long cylindrical panels subject to a suddenly applied radial pressure, which remains constant. The energy approach is used to develop the static equilibrium equations. The criterion of dynamic snap-through is developed which avoids formulating the differential equations of motion and solves the problem using a purely static formulation. The graphic interpretation of such a criterion is also given.
