A Comparison of Sulfide and Non-Sulfide Phosphor Sets for Field Emission Displays

This paper has investigated some of the emission characteristics of phosphors tested in our ThinCRT FEDs. The color and brightness characteristics of a P22 and non-sulfide phosphor set were compared and evaluated based on product requirements. The higher efficiency of the tested P22 phosphor set required less current in order to achieve the desired brightness. Their superior color gamut and good saturated blue also match the excellent screen appearance set by the color CRT standard. In addition, previous results demonstrated that the lifetime of these phosphors is adequate for commercial applications [FED Life and Reliability, Information Display Vol. 16 No. 4/5, May 2000]. These characteristics make the P22 phosphor set the better choice for a medium voltage FED.
