Diagnosing novel faults

摘要

Currently available diagnostic expert systems are limited as theyncannot address novel situations and faults. Moreover, they cannotnrecognize such situations, which often lead to an incorrect diagnosis ornat best an exhaustive search through their knowledge bases. ThenCONSOLIDATE system is a hybrid diagnostic system which integratesnexperiential and causal-model-based knowledge sources, which retains thenefficiency of experiential-based approaches while providing a mechanismnto recognize and address previously unobserved situations. A discussionnis given the CONSOLIDATE system, issues related to novel faultnhypothesis generation, and the approach utilized to address these issues
