The paper deals with an economics of scope case looking after balanced mix of production flexibility and leanness joined to total quality and mass-production effectiveness. The study is based on virtual plant assessments (by means of virtual engineering) and considers industrial artefacts (automotive components) aiming at economics of scale figures on tactical horizons, but undergoing fast updating requests and quick response adaptivity on strategic horizons; the sought solution profits of shopfloor resources modularity; example simulation issues are given, in view of dispatching lay-out and scheduling.
