Spunlacing process (also called hydroentanglement) has gained recognition since the first industrial line from Rieter Perfojet installed in 1984. The spunlacing is a flexible bonding technique for producing high - quality nonwoven from 25 to 400 gsm whose aspect compares more and more to textile fabrics. It has good strength, softness and density, 'etc. The development of spunlace technology is relatively new, with the world market today having approximately 130 lines over a range of width up to 5.0 meter wide, and operating speed has reached to 300m/min. The use of fiber is also from a wide range: man made fibers; synthetic fiber; cotton; viscose; pulp; silk; chitin fiber and blending fibers. The use of bydroentanglement with different type of fibers offers a full panel of applications. It may be of interest to review the concepts of hydroentanglement (to be termed " spunlace" hereafter) . After web formation by standard dry - laid systems like a carding machine, the web contained the fibers are introduced into the spunlace units by a conveyor. Spunlace unit is using the water jet under high pressure to entangle the fibers in the web, the energy is transfered to the fiber by the high speed of the water jets. After several steps of multiple injectors based upon the fibers, web weight ranges and the operating speed, the entangled nonwoven needs to be dried. Based upon this concept, the key components of the spunlace process are the injector, the web supporting and the water treatment and etc.
