A novel integrated optical scanning filter based on the original technique of control of the spectral response of Bragg gratings has been developed. A demonstrator of the proposed technique based on a holographic Bragg grating in a single-mode LiNbO_3 optical waveguide has been fabricated and tested. The device gives a possibility of the fast control of both a central wavelength and a shape of optical spectrum. A high functionality of the filter provides a pathway to develop new interrogation protocols and formats based on the spectral coding of optical signals and combine frequency modulation (FSK) with spectral optical code division multi access (OCDMA) architecture. Potentially, a high wavelength selectivity (0.1 - 0.01 nm), fast electrooptical control (up to 20 GHz), relatively low controlling voltage together with the integrated optical implementation make this device very promising as a key building block of various optical systems for interrogation of optical sensors.
