Abstract: This paper presents the theory of a ring laser which uses the optical pumping by two plane waves with different frequencies and directions. If the group velocity of light in an active medium becomes equal to the phase velocity of a running grating induced by the pumping rays, then the one-directional wave of an amplification arises leading to ring laser generation with full suppress of those modes that run opposite the amplification wave direction. Applications of the theory are considered determination of angular coordinates of remote target and laser gyroscope with high sensitivity. !5
