Coherent control and switching

摘要

The use of direct gap semiconductors as the active medium in all-optical switching devices is favoured by their large optical nonlinearities. However a number of shortcomings exist which so far preclude their commercial exploitation. The challenge for physics is to use existing concepts in new ways in order to circumvent some of these fundamental problems.
