As measurements of surface deformation and surface profiles of an object have been increasingly relied on digital imaging techniques, there is a need for a simple and robust procedure to calibrate digital imaigng systems to ensure the accuracy and reliability of these measurements. We will outline a new calibration procedure for digital imaging systems that will be used in digital image correlation techniques for 2D surface strain mapping, 3D surface profiling, and 3D surface strain mapping. Mathematical formulations for the basis of the new calibration procedure will be presented in this abstract.
