Abstract: Exciton interactions in ZnSe-based thin layers and quantum wells have been studied using ultrafast four-wave-mixing. We present results to show the influence of quantum confinement on the exciton-acoustic-phonon scattering rate, and compare the coherence lifetimes of excitons and biexcitons. Using a thin ZnSe layer, we reveal a new signature of quantum beating, namely polarization-state beating, which in turn reveals the role of excitation-induced dephasing in exciton interactions.!10
