The Snap Lake Phase I project initiated a subsampling campaign on thernmaterial (kimberlite/metavolcanic/granite) mined and treated forrndiamonds. The campaign was aimed at determining the optimumrnsubsampling program to subsample the feed to the bulk sample plantrn(BSP) for the duration of a sampling campaign.rnThis paper describes the application of Gy's formula for determiningrnthe subsample size and other good sampling practices to determine thisrnsubsampling campaign.rnThree main issues are discussed:rn1. The use of a hammer sampler to sample off a moving conveyor and thernpractical experiment to determine the optimum subsampling program;rn2. Bias introduced by laboratory equipment including two sizes rotaryrnsplitters; andrn3. Variability of the feed material to the BSP over time.
