摘要

Because the runup process of solitary wave is strongly nonlinear, it might be difficult to reprodece the runup of soitary wave by linear theory. However, if the results of linear analysis are compared with the results of nonlinear analysis (which may be done numericallY), effect of nonlinearity will be made clear. Further, in the case of wave having small wave height, linear theory may reproduce the behavior of wave. As long as the linear theory is satisfactorily enough, linear theory seems a strong tool to analize the behavior of wave.
