Contamination of coastal water sediments

The problem presented in the paper deals with the harbour bottom sediment quality. The sediment contamination by the most often reported pollutants, heavy metals, PAH's and mineral oils is presented. Special attention is paid to the distribution of pollutants in sediments cores. An evaluation of the sediment quality was made in view of the guidelines suggested by Dutch standards. It has been proved that most often the limits in two metals cadmium and copper, as well as PAH, were exceeded.
