摘要

The hydrological information concerning river basins are essential in numerous and diversified activities. The range of the use of hydrological data, mainly those related to rainfall, the height of water-levels and flow, concern in particular manner fundamental aspects of the management of the river basins. Each single activity requires suitable systems of storing, processing and fruition which prove to be completely different for each one as far as functionality, performance, reliability and use are concerned. This paper presents three different technologies: Data Base, Data Warehouse and XML repository, considered by the Italian National Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service the most suitable for the storing, processing and fruition of the hydrological data in each of the afore mentioned spheres. The criteria for the selection of the three technologies have been based on the specific needs that characterize each sphere of activity where the availability of hydrological data in the time established and in the required form is essential to the specialist user.
