Flock and Decorative Tape for to TPE for Automotive Seals

Developments in TPE technology have resulted in elastomers with very desirable properties for automotive seals. Most seal designs require flocked areas for functional reasons, and colored embossed or fabric clad areas to integrate the seal appearance into the interior decor of the car. A tape product has been developed which can be bonded in line to TPE extrusion to produce accurately positioned flocked areas. Similarly, embossed PVC or embossed TPO tapes that can be in line bonded to TPE extrusions have been introduced along with fabric tapes for seal decoration. The characteristics of the tapes, techniques for their application as well as properties of the parts made with them will be discussed.
