DATA ASSIMILATION IN WAVE MODELLING – OPERATIONAL USE AND VALIDATION

WAM model (ECMWF version) has been used and further developed from the Atmospheric Modeling andrnWeather Forecasting Group of University of Athens in cooperation with ECMWF. The new model version is fullyrnparallelized so to operate in distributed memory environments like linux clusters of scalar processors. Because of itsrncapability to run on parallel it is possible to operate in high resolution even at its global configuration. The modelrnincludes data assimilation systems for altimetry data from different kind of platforms. The assimilation methodologyrndeveloped by our group includes corrections by Kolmogorov-Zurbenko and Kalman filtering techniques for wavernmeasurements. In this paper, some first evaluation results are discussed.
