Abstract: The trajectory planning method becomes a significant problem in the Automated Tape Laying (ATL) composite manufacturing, because the fiber orientations are determined by the methods. In this article, briefly reviewed is development process of ATL path generating. Described are the two major methods: 1) ATL trajectory planning methods based on the “Natural Path” method; 2) ATL trajectory planning methods based on geometric shape. In addition, the shortcomings of them are respectively summarized as well. Finally, predicted is the future developing direction of the trajectory planning methods- to strike a balance between the calculation efficiency and the precision, while enlarging the commonality.
