COMMON SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT METHODS FOR HUMAN, VEHICLE AND MISSION SAFETY CRITICAL SPACE PROJECTS

This paper will address how the methods and tools usedrnfor the ATV project can be tailored to other projects tornfit their specific needs and costs. The examples of thernHOMER lander demonstrator project (and its successfulrnfree flight in October 2012) and the ExoMars Roverrnproject will be used (from ASTRIUM ST andrnASTRIUM Ltd).rnThe paper will survey the major phases of therndevelopment by ASTRIUM of various safety criticalrnsoftwares (either human, vehicle or mission levelrnrelated):rn1.The specification phase, with more particularlyrnthe use of the Model Driven Environment (MDE)rnapproach with SCADE? from ANSYS.rn2.The coding and Unit testing phase (both fromrnmanual coding or autocoding from MDE).rn3.The validation phase, with more AGILE likernapproach, and how to perform fast and automatedrnvalidation loops, thanks to specific tools.rnThis paper will conclude on how the human safetyrncritical software development approach can bernprofitable to vehicle or mission safety critical projects,rneven if no human life is directly at sake.
