Future mobile information systems: potential applications andsystems features

It is suggested that future mobile information systems willnprovide a wide range of capabilities far beyond the positioning andnnavigation functions of conventional in-vehicle systems. This will leadnto applications in travel advisory, fleet and traffic management, mobilenoffice, occupant activities, and vehicle/driver monitoring and control.nThe primary expected benefits of future mobile positioning, navigation,ninformation, and communications systems, as well as the means ofnachieving these benefits, are summarized for each application area.nTables presenting the features of each individual application are given.nThe challenge to the developers of these systems will be to designnhardware and software that will enhance, rather than degrade, overallnroad safety
