This paper describes the time-depenedent reliability methodology and hazard function development for navigation structures in the Ohio River mainstem System Study (ORMSS). THe ORMSS is currently exmaining reliability over the mext 50 years for structural, mechnaical, and electrical components at 19 lock and dam structures. The time-dependent approach discussed in this paper accounts for the cumulative effects of degradation on reliability. haard rates for the components are developed based on the concept of "life-cycles". The implementation of these methods is handled using Monte Carlo simulation for a 50-yerar life-cycle period Illustrative exmaples are highlighted for a vertical beam component of a miter gate and for an anchored sheet-pile wall.
