Properties of stabilized concrete and their control mixtures were evaluated using a number of fresh and hardened concrete tests. Mixtures were evaluated in the laboratory under conditions that simulated overnight stabilization of their wash water to determine how the fresh and hardened properties changed. Compared to control concrete samples, the compressive and flexural strengths, modulus of elasticity, and drying shrinkage properties of the stabilized concrete are acceptable. The significant difference between stabilized mixtures and their control mixtures was in set times. Set times for the stabilized mixtures were significantly greater than those of their control mixtures when stabilizer admixture was combined with other retardant admixtures. Results of this study demonstrate that dosages and combinations of water reducers and/or retard ants with stabilizer agents can have a pronounced effect on the properties of the concrete produced.
