This study proposes a minor destructive technique aimed at evaluating the mechanical properties of mortar through a new penetration test. The penetrometer is conceived to reach a depth ranging from 40 to 50 mm through multiple strokes, with the aim to test the mortar originally employed to grout the masonry. The experimental result consists of the average number of strokes per millimetre of penetration. Results of penetration tests on 14 structures are presented, together with first statistical analyses.
