Intelligent systems increase efficiency on many levels. Planningrnsolutions affect need for transportation, heating, cooling andrnlighting of buildings. Design of buildings and transportationrninfrastructure affects functionality and flexibility. Solutions andrnbehavioural influencing in business, work and social organizationrnmake better use of existing infrastructure and human orrnmaterial resources. New technology reduces physical mobility,rnenergy and materials consumption; new devices and machines,rnpower plants and distribution networks become more energyefficient.rnIntelligent, flexible process aims to alter continuously due tornthe demand; in which experience and information are gainedrnand used to improve the organization and implemented system.rnThis will optimize control by changing output in real timernaccording to real needs.rnIntelligent systems are usually designed for a specific purposernin a narrow subsector. The solutions, policies and practicesrndeveloped are usually recognized and used in the samernzone only. Copying existing models can lead to unsatisfyingrnresults as situations and background conditions may differ significantly.rnBy conceptualizing results to a more abstract level,rngood solutions found in different fields can be better utilized inrnan interdisciplinary way.rnWe will formulate methods for conceptualizing good practicesrnand solutions of intelligent processes and systems, andrnshow examples of case studies covering intelligent systems such as software automation, modularisation and prototyping.rnMore specifically, potential decline in electricity use willrnbe discussed in this context. This includes policies as well asrntechnical solutions such as intelligent systems for lighting inrnwhich the lights have the ability of dimming as required basedrnon a learning artificial intelligence system. The proposed actionsrnallow a significant potential in saving energy in residentialrnand commercial buildings, which will be emphasized inrnthe life-cycle costs.
