Passive Houses are buildings that feature slow transient thermal behaviour. A parameter step change (i.e.outdoor temperature variation) produces lengthy and slow answer of the indoor atmosphere. It results in adamping effect of the variation of the boundary parameters. This may enable space heating load computationby using static calculation methods. However, accurate sizing of renewable energy converters and HVACsystem still necessitates time dependent computational method in order to make heat supply and demandmatch. The success of achieving Passive House requirements relies on details. Our goal is to investigate howfar those details should be taken into account to provide Passive House architects and HVAC engineers withsimple, comprehensible but reliable simulation tools and sizing guidelines for them to offer their customersenvironmental friendly and very low fossil energy consuming buildings. This paper reports our first steps andresults, detailing the measurement system of a Passive House building, and the simulation model used todescribe building thermal behaviour and HVAC system. We established that renewable energies wereeconomically viable for Passive Houses but stressed at the same time the importance of adequate systemsizing on the investment and operation costs.
