The paper presents an approach to evaluate the fatigue reliability and reliability-based sensitivity of train wheels with respect to uncertain parameters. Firstly, load spectra are derived using a theoretical method. Finite element (FE) model of a wheelset is subjected to the derived excitation and the stress spectrum of the dangerous point is obtained. By utilizing the design of experiment (DOE) and Back-Propagation (BP) algorithm, the explicit function relation between stresses and design parameters is formulated. Combining with the damage accumulation (DA) approach, the stochastic perturbation method (SPM) and Monte-Carlo simulation (MCS) are adopted to calculate the fatigue reliability and the results are compared. Reliability-based sensitivity analysis is carried out with gradient algorithm and the variation regularities of reliability-based sensitivity are obtained and the effects of design parameters on reliability of the wheel are studied.
