A Baseline Study on The Readiness of Islanders in Using ICT: A Case Study of Pulau Perhentian

The study sought to identify the readiness of Islanders in using ICT at Pulau Perhentian, Terengganu, Malaysia. Data were collected from 185 respondents by means of a self-administered questionnaire. The results showed majority of the islanders are not ready to use ICT. In order to support and increase ICT literacy, concerted effort in providing equal access to Internet, supportive policy and strategies; deployment of information and communication technologies (ICT) innovations with application and added value e-participation. The paper concludes that with effective planning, comprehensive development strategies based on the needs of the community and matching implementation process, the Islanders of Pulau Perhentian will be able to meet the challenges and ready to use ICT in their daily life.
