CONTINUOUS MONITORING OF MERCURY EMISSIONS IN COMBUSTION FLUE GASES WITH THE 'MERCEM' Hg CEMS

The demand for the continuous monitoring of mercury emissions in combustion flue gases has been increasingrnsignificantly over the past few years.rnThe Federal Republic of Germany is currently the only nation which has issued a regulation for both emissionrnlimits and the continuous monitoring of total Hg in incinerator flue gases.rnThe "MERCEM" Hg CEMS is an ideal instrument for this task and is utilizing special features such asrnseparation of Hg from the sample gas by a gold trap and a high sample gas flow rate.rnThe MERCEM has been certified according to the German regulation 17.BImSchV, which is mandatory for allrnkind of CEMS.rnData generated during evaluation and certification tests which have been conducted at EERC University of NorthrnDakota, Public Service Colorado, the DOE mixed waste incinerator TSCA in Oak Ridge, TN and cement plantsrnin Germany are available.rnLong term field experiences gathered from different kinds of applications are available. These applicationsrninclude municipal waste incinerators, hazardous waste incinerators, sewage incinerators, cement plants, ordnancerndestruction, and a copper ore roasting process with high SO_2 levels.
