Export performance was assessed in the traditional way in a multitude of ways, depending on your point of view of the researcher. It has been argued that the export performance is one of the least understood areas of international marketing, and that the wide variety of concepts used have resulted in contradictory and conflicting results. This represents a weakness within the existing research, as long as it has been argued that firms that implement robust measures of performance, will benefit from better performance marketing in general. Although there is some controversy as to how the performance should be conceptualized and on what metrics should be used, there seems to be a common point- the conceptualizations should include more dimensions and ratings, in order to capture all aspects of this concept. The fact that different methods for the evaluation of the performance are not necessarily mutually exclusive is emphasized and Ambler. Thus, where a large number of measurements of the performance of export has not found anything wrong, there is a greater chance of correctness of the Directorate-General of the company.
