Radiometric Instrumentation for PV System Performance Monitoring

This paper provides an overview of existing instrumentation options and solicits user needs for improving outdoor solar radiation measurements for determining PV system performance. The following topics are discussed:rn1. Historical overview and terminologyrn2. Radiometer calibration and characterization methods used by NRELrn3. Sample calibration results for various commercial instrumentsrn4. Current research topicsrn5. User needs for improved PV performance monitoring.rnEmphasis is placed on the need for the user to understand the measurement capabilities of commercially available radiometers and interpret the measurement results accordingly. A list of radiometer manufacturers is also provided.
