Hydrogen production in the reactions of sodium brorhydride with various polyhyroxyl compounds was investigated. The reactions were carried out at room temperature and ambient pressure with glycol, glycerol, fructose, and sucrose. The results show that the hydrogen generation is dependant on sodium borohydride concentration and the polyhydroxyl reactant used. Reactions that involved glycol and glycerol had 100% hydrogen yield. However, the reactions with the water solutions of fructose and sucrose had lower hydrogen yield.
