How to guarantee the safety of running operation and the successful proceeding of engineering works is of great concern to the blasting construction nearby the existing railway line. Based on the practical engineering example, this paper attempts to illustrate the construction plan, method, problems and safety measures for the controlled blasting techniques used in the road-cutting expansion of existing railways. The practice has proved that the using of fan-patterns blasting mode, changing the relative position between the minimum burden and existing railway and adopting reasonable space time of millisecond delay successfully stop the flyrocks, reduce an effect of vibration on the existing railway and civil house. All which ensure the existing railway running smoothly. These techniques have certain practical meanings and are valuable for the future similar engineering.
