Acoustical Design of Brass Band School Concert Hall inAnkara

The concert hall of the military brass band school is located in the same building as the rehearsal and practice rooms. It was intended to serve for concert performances of the school band and occasionally for lectures as well as for the performance of solo concerts and chamber music. The presentrnpaper describes the acoustic design considerations and design procedures of the hall with regard to aestheticsrnand acoustic properties of the hall. With a volume of 3270 m3 (including the stage) and a total of 350 seats itrnis a small concert hall. It has a diamond-shaped floor plan and a fixed stage at one end. The stage itself has arnmaximum width of 15.9 m and a depth of 9.6 m. Its area, including the forestage, is about 115 m2 and offersrnenough space for a 80 seats band and a choir if needed. The acoustic design goals can be summarised asrnfollows: to ensure a proper reverberation time, sufficiently strong direct sounds to all listeners, well-suppliedrnearly sound and strong lateral sound reflections to all seats and to create a diffuse sound field.
